The Housing Choice Voucher program helps to pay a subsidy amount towards the rent of low-income persons, so they can live in the house, condo, duplex, townhome, apartment, or mobile home of their choice. Rental units must meet the standards of health and safety, as determined by Mid-Missouri Public housing Agency (MMPHA). The housing subsidy is paid directly to the landlord by MMPHA on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program.
